Redlands resident Cheryl Evans has dancing on her mind these days: “For some reason the days I spent in Miss Blum’s ballet class and taking tap class from Jimmy Rawlins way back when in Ohio, keeps popping into my brain. Those were fun times.”

Perhaps Cheryl’s new role as a dancing “star” in this year’s Redlands Symphony Gala Dancing with the Stars showcase has something to do with her current fixation on the ballroom.

“I love to dance and I’m really looking forward to taking the dancing lessons and practicing for the Gala,” Cheryl says, “My goal is to do a fun, credible performance and to raise a lot of money for the Symphony’s OrKIDstra program that provides music education for kids.”

Cheryl and John, her husband of 36 years, have lived in Redlands for a total of 29 years. Both are originally from Columbus, Ohio. The Evans’ are the proud parents of two grown children. The family also includes three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

For the last 23 years, Cheryl has owned and managed Evans & Co., a hair styling salon in downtown Redlands. She has been in the fashion and beauty industry for 45 years, ever since graduating from high school. She loves music, the theater, art, being outdoors, hiking, scuba diving, traveling and dancing: “I’m not very good,” Cheryl says, “But hopefully, that fact will change, at least a little bit.”

“I’m excited about being a part of the Gala because I think it would be amazing to help give our local children a chance to experience and learn about music by raising money for the for the Redlands Symphony and its education programs.”
